Passion Projects and Personal Pieces

“Demeter”

Photography

This photograph was taken during the fall, inspired by the fact that winter was coming. I wanted to experiment with using color and expression to contradict one another in an image. Orange and bright yellows are usually colors that represent energy and excitement, and even though I am wearing these colors, the background of the image is dull, and my expression is neutral. It is meant to be up to interpretation; wearing I am staring and the winter with a sort of fear and dread, or if I’m looking back on a beautiful harvest season in pride.

“People Watching”

Data Visualization

This piece was a project that enhanced my data visualization skills by observing a space on the campus of The Pennsylvania State University and then creating a chart to represent all of the sounds in the space. I went in-depth here and chose three different ways to visualize and present the data, based on the noise in the specific time slot and space. One was a main chart that presented the data using circles, while others followed a radar-style design, demonstrating where in the building the sound was the loudest, as well as how loud it was.

The Anchor Media Kits

Data Visualization

These media kits were the deliverables that I completed for my internship with the Hingham Anchor and the Cohasset Anchor. The Hingham and Cohasset Anchors are a co-owned local news and lifestyle resource for towns on the South Shore of Massachusetts. They have sign-on packages for those who subcribe to the newsletter and would like to either advertise through or sponsor The Anchor, which led to me creating these updated media kits for the company.

“Blossom”

Illustration

This illustration was a passion project. I have enjoyed creating mandalas my whole life, and this is one of the many I have done to practice my attention to detail and my use of space. As an Indian-American, I grew up on rangoli, which is an Indian practice for creating mandalas on the ground with colored powders. That’s why these are dear to my heart.

“Antelope Canyon”

Landscape Photography

This image is a photograph of Antelope Canyon in Arizona. I took this image because of the contrast, not only between the rock and the sky, but also the shadows, depth, and detail as well. I enjoy experimenting with photography, which is why I like to take a lot of vertically-oriented landscape images.
